Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, who can see it, and how to get it deleted. Effective September 26, 2026.
The short version
- We collect what you give us to run a job board: your account, your profile and what you post.
- Profiles are only visible to signed-in members, and your email and phone only show if you switch Show Contact Info on.
- We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
- Payments go through Stripe — we never see your full card number.
- Email admin@theworkorder.org to get a copy of your information or have it deleted.
Who we are
The Work Order (theworkorder.org) is a job board for skilled trades. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. Questions go to admin@theworkorder.org.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, your email address or phone number, your password (stored encrypted — we can’t read it), and whether you’re a TradesMan or a Recruiter.
- Your profile, if you add it: city, trade, years of experience, company, certifications, jobs you’ve worked, upcoming work, work photos, your resume, and your phone number.
- What you post: work orders (the job details and the email or phone you give for applications) and job tips (the place, trade, company, pay and what you heard).
- Messages you send us through our contact, report-a-listing and suggestion forms.
- Billing, for recruiters: your Stripe customer and subscription records — plan, status and dates. Your card details go straight to Stripe.
- Technical information: our host keeps server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and troubleshooting, and the site uses cookies to keep you signed in and remember your language.
- Apply taps: when someone taps Apply, we count it for that city to show which cities are busiest. No name or contact details are stored with the count.
How we use it
To run your account; to show your profile and posts to other members; to let workers and employers reach each other; to send account emails (password resets, subscription notices, replies to your messages); to review listings and stop scams; to bill subscriptions; and to keep the site working and secure.
We don’t sell or rent your personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Who can see what
- Anyone: job listings — the job, trade, pay and city. Company names and ways to apply are shown to signed-in members only.
- Signed-in members: profiles (name, trade or company, city, experience, certifications, jobs worked, photos and resume), and the name of the worker behind a tip. Your email and phone only appear on your profile if Show Contact Info is on.
- An employer you apply to: whatever is in the email or text you send — the site fills it in from your profile, and you can edit it before sending.
- Us: the site admin can see all of the above, to run and moderate the site.
Services we use
We use a few outside services to run the site. They only get what they need to do their job:
- Stripe — recruiter payments.
- DeepL — translates job posts and worker tips between English and Spanish. Only the text of the post is sent (title, pay, requirement and description), never your contact details.
- Hostinger — our web host: hosting, backups, server logs and email sending.
- Google — the fonts on our pages, and the maps on campground pages. Loading these sends your IP address to Google, as with any website that uses them.
- OpenStreetMap — to work out how far campgrounds are from town. Only campground addresses are sent, never anything about you.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your language, and make pages load faster. Google may set its own cookies when a campground map loads. We don’t use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
How long we keep it
- Your account and profile stay until you ask us to delete them.
- Posts that are taken down sit in our trash for 30 days, then are deleted.
- Billing records are kept as long as we need them for tax and accounting.
- Server logs and backups are kept for a limited time by our host, then overwritten.
Your choices
- See and edit your profile any time on My Account, including removing photos, your resume and your phone number.
- Hide your contact details with Show Contact Info.
- Get a copy, or delete your account: email admin@theworkorder.org from the address on your account. We’ll reply within 30 days. Recruiters: cancel your subscription first under Manage billing.
Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights over your information, such as to access, correct, delete or move it. Email us to use them — we won’t treat you any differently for asking.
Security
Passwords are stored encrypted, the whole site runs over a secure connection (HTTPS), and only the site admin can see account details. No website is perfectly secure, so if you notice anything wrong, tell us at admin@theworkorder.org.
Children
The Work Order is for adults and older teens looking for or offering work. It isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has signed up, email us and we’ll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here with a new date. If a change affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll email members first.
